Process Explorer - an alternative to Windows Task Manager

Process Explorer is an advanced process management utility which shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded. The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window shows a list of the currently active processes. If the bottom window is not visible, then you can make it visible by selecting Show Lower Pane from View menu. You can set Lower Pane View either in DLL mode or Handles mode. You can set the required mode from View menu of Process Explorer. If Process Explorer is in handles mode then you will see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened. If Process Explorer is in DLL mode then you will see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded.

Process Explorer is useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way windows and applications work. Process Explorer supports Windows 9x/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003, and 64-bit versions of Windows for x64 and IA64 processors, and Windows Vista. Latest Process Explorer supports replacement of task manager on Vista also.

You can kill a process very easily with Process Explorer. Just select a process in Process explorer window then from Process menu select Kill Process.
